Heyyy guys!
I’m back here again with a new product review~~~~~ I actually wrote a mini review about Pyunkang Yul – Essence Toner in my instagram but I decided to delete the post because I realize the picture didn’t fit ig feed’s theme HAHA. Anyway, because I delete the post I think I should kinda re-post a more detailed review in here. Okay without further ado, here it is!
I bought this toner a month ago out of my curiosity because a lot of people said that this toner is as good as Klairs – Supple Preparation Facial Toner. As you can see above, this toner came in a 200ml bottle in a sleek and minimal design which I really love because simple, minimalist packaging is my weaknesses. I mean it look so good in my vanity and look good in picture.
Most of the details written on the back of the bottle is written in korean, but the direction on how to apply and the product’s ingredients is also written in english.
The box has the same design as the bottle, blue-white themed box that as good looking as the bottle. Anyway, at the back of the box a more detailed details about the products is written in both korean and english. However, the product’s claims cannot be found anywhere in either in the bottle or the box so I have to look up for it in the internet. Pyunkang Yul doesn’t have a website but I managed to find it at stylekorean.com.
One thing interest me the most about this toner is that this toner contain a really minimal ingredients.
Ingredients
Astragalus Membranaceus Root Extract, 1,2-Hexanediol, Butylene Glycol, Bis-PEG-18 Methyl Ether Dimethyl Silane, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Carbomer, Arginine
This toner is alcohol-free and fragrance-free. Do take not that this toner contains silicone, you might want to avoid this if you have a problem with products that contains silicone. However I don’t feel any silicone-ish feeling when I use this toner, though.
Anyway, Pyunkang Yul use Astragalus Membranaceus Root Extract or Milk Vetch Root Extract as water replacement. Let’s talk a little bit about milk vetch root extract which is an ingredient that’s usually used in traditional Chinese medicine to treat disease, including cold, flu, and possibly can prevent cancer.
I did a little research about milk vetch root extract and turns out that it has a several function. And I found two that most likely milk vetch root extract will be functioning as when used in skincare products which is anti-inflammatory, anti-aging, and heal wounds.
Product Claims
Excellent absorption and intense hydration
- Contains 91.3% Milk Vetch Root Extract to re-energize and replenish your skin.
- Provides intense hydration. Simply patting your skin will result in a gummy sensation in which the skin will react with a high level of elasticity!
- A viscous, dense texture that absorbs quickly into the skin for a dewy yet smooth and clean finish
- Free of artificial fragrances and colors and hypoallergenic to care for your skin without irritating it.
Product Texture
I expect this toner to be more essence like, a bit viscous and not too watery. But it turns out that this toner is really watery, even more watery than Klairs’s. It also absorbed really quickly without leaving any trace behind, or any scent behind because this toner is fragrance-free and it smells like a medicine a bit, but not a strong scent it is more a super mild scent. So, this toner is great for sensitive skin!
Suggested Use
- Apply an appropriate amount onto a cotton pad
- Apply whilst gently following the lines of your skin
- Turn the cotton pad over and gently pat the absorb the contents
- Heat up your hands and cover your skin to further enhance the absorption of the essence toner
My Thoughts
I think I had way too high expectation to this toner. I expect it to be as good as Klairs. I mean this toner is not bad, but it just did not meet my expectation. This toner is hydrating, but not hydrating enough for me. I have to at least use two or three layers to get the proper hydration. Maybe that’s because I’m used to a toner that contains hyaluronic acid that’s more hydrating? and this toner doesn’t contain HA. However, the good thing is it didn’t break me out or make my skin irritated. It absorbed quickly but you might want to pat-pat it to make it absorbed faster. I ended up using this toner to cleanse my face in the morning when I don’t feel like I need to wash my face, after I cleanse my face with this toner I layer it with Klairs’s toner. I feels like my skin is more hydrated when I use it that way.
Well, I won’t say that this toner is bad or a dud. Its a good one, I mean this toner has a minimal ingredients, fragrance-free, alcohol-free, and has a great packaging. But it just not hydrating enough for me.
Repurchase? Nope.
